Crappie are just one of many species that show up when sampling a warm water fishery.

Shown here is one of two electrodes that are used when sampling a pond or lake with an electroshocking boat. Electroshocking is often combined with gill netting and trap netting during a pond or lake sampling.

This adult gizzard shad was captured by utilizing a gillnet. Gillnetting is one of the methods we use to sample a lake or pond fishery.

When sampling a fishery, many pictures are taken to give a visual representation of what species are present, and the condition they are in.

When sampling a river or stream, these mesh cages hold the fish during multiple pass situations before they are observed, counted and measured.

River sampling. After fish are removed from the holding cages for observation and data collection they are carefully returned to their natural environment.
